I undertook Cost/Benefit analyses to justify the projects initiated in Systems Development at the Royal Bank of Scotland.
I have an excellent understanding of the use of Discounted Cash-flow methods to evaluate projects: NPV, EAA and IRR.
In 2006 I participated in the design of the Framingham MBA Program. I implemented the design between 2007 and 2009.
I was responsible for all aspects of Financial Accounting for Locomotive Software Limited between 1984 and 1994.
I built the accounting system at Locomotive Software Limited.
I included product costings in the system to deliver a contribution analysis report.
The report allowed us to identify that the business was ceasing to be viable and allowed us to take action in the early 1990's to avoid catastrophe.
In 1983 I worked with Richard Clayton and Chris Hall to develop the business plan to build an add-on board for the IBM PC centered around the National Semiconductor NS16032.
I used SuperCalc, a forerunner of Excel, to develop cash-flow forecasts and pro-forma accounts and we had arranged funding under a Government grant.
I used Google Click-words, Facebook, MySpace, Linked-in and other web-site advertising to advertise the Framingham MBA and Google Analytics to guage the success of the advertising.
I have programmed in Basic, Pascal, C, SAS, Clipper, DBase, SMART, Gupta's SQLBase and SQLWindows.
Recently I have been programming with MySQL, PHP5, XHTML JavaScript and jQuery.
I have a good understanding of Regular Expression syntax and of SQL.
I like the challenge of getting to grips with new software.
I have used Project Manager Workbench (similar to Microsoft Project) to set up and control large projects.
My last project for the Royal Bank of Scotland was the design and implementation of a sophisticated time-series database.
I have used Dreamweaver extensively in building web-sites and the OurSQS web-based application. Before that I used Adobe GoLive.
I have a good understanding of database design and implementation. I have integrated PHP5 and MySQL to create a "Content Management" system - see my OurSQS development.
I have used PHP5 to generate web pages, traverse the DOM, store web pages, resize images and create folder images - see my OurSQS development.
I have installed and used Apache to provide testing server facilities to test web pages locally before uploading them to a web-site.
I am increasingly adept with the use of jQuery in the creation of Widget code which adds behaviors to web pages based on class assignment in HTML - see jQuery pages.
I use both AJAX and XHTML with iFrames to upload files to a web server from the client browser and to download the content to web pages.
I understand the issues in optimization of web sites for search and have implemented the methods by which web-search can be optimized for web-sites.
I undertand the use of CSS to control the appearance and placement of elements in a web page.
I have used SAS, Minitab and Excel for Statistics and taught MBA students to use them. (2003 MBA Minitab Seminar Web Page, Excel Seminar Notes and 2003/2004 MBA SAS Seminar Web Page.
I have used C, SAS and MS Access to manipulate large datasets both for my dissertation and in research.
I used MS Access with MPL/CPLEX to set up the input data, solve and capture the results of large scale Math Programs for my dissertation and academic research.
I lived as a child in Mexico, Peru, Portugal and Brazil so I speak Spanish and Portuguese, although both are rusty, but serviceable.
I speak a little French and a little less German.
